What makes Cowboy Pools so special? Cowboy Pools is the original stock tank pool company, proudly serving up superior products and services nationwide, while constantly innovating and upgrading. We stand behind the pools we build and we plan to be around for a long time, with ongoing customer service, maintenance and protection plans available. In select markets, we offer professional installation, ground leveling, electrical, decking and total backyard buildout services.

Proper prep makes all the difference when it comes to your Cowboy Pool’s performance and longevity, that's why we highly recommend going with a professional for all your site prep needs. In select markets we do offer service for ground leveling, electrical, installation, decks and pergolas, and total buildout services. If you're not going with our services, here’s what to know before install day:
🔨 Base & Ground Prep
We recommend creating a decomposed granite gravel pad, about 3” thick and about 1 foot wider in diameter than your pool. This base should be:
- Well-compacted
- Perfectly level in all directions
Note: We do not recommend sand as a base material for leveling your pool.
Important: A concrete pad isn't necessarily level, and neither is a flat-looking yard. You can check your space by laying a long, straight 2x4 (about the length of your pool's diameter) on the ground and placing a level on top. If the bubble is off, your space isn’t level—bumps or dips will need to be addressed before install day.⚠️ Install Day Policy – Unlevel Sites
If your space is not fully leveled when our crew arrives:
- We’ll either install the pool on the existing surface (as-is),
OR- Reschedule your install for a fee. You may also be placed at the back of our install queue, which could mean a delay of several weeks.
Please make sure your space is level to avoid delays and added costs!
⚡ Pump Placement & Electrical
You'll need a level 2' x 3' pad for the filter pump, located within 100 feet of a 110v, 15amp GFCI outlet (standard outdoor outlet).
By default, our install team places the pump within 10 feet of the pool. If you'd like it farther away (above ground), we offer extended distance options:
- Up to 25 ft – $250 additional
- Up to 50 ft – $450 additional
If you’re planning to bury your pool pipes, the yard will need to be trenched prior to install, and you'll need to let us know in advance so we can provide pricing and specifics for underground rigid PVC plumbing.

If you're building a deck around your pool, be sure to install your pool first, then build the deck around it. This ensures proper access and alignment.

For the pool filter pump, there needs to be a GFCI 120v 15amp outlet within extension cord distance of your pool equipment. If your outdoor plug isn’t protected by a GFCI we can provide an adapter upon delivery.
For the TempTamer Heater & Chiller you will need two outlets near the pool pump location. One dedicated 120v 15amp outlet for the pool pump and one dedicated 120v 15amp outlet within 15-20ft of the pool pump location for the heater/chiller.
For a Crosswind Heater & Chiller you will still need the 120v 15amp outlet for the pool pump and a 240v junction box installed within 6ft of the pool pump location.

Our galvanized tanks arrive at our warehouse nested in sets of three for efficient transportation. Each diameter has a small, medium, and large nest size, with slight diameter variations of a few inches. Please note, the look of your pool will vary slightly depending on size take you receive. With the small nest size, the liner’s lip fits over the edge of the tank, while with the large nest size, the entire liner sits inside the tank, with the lip flush with the top of the galvanized edge. Each pool is built based on the available nest size at the time.
Imperfections can occur during the manufacturing and transport process to our warehouse that is out of our control. Occasionally there are scratches and dents that are unavoidable.
This does not effect the functionality or longevity of these pools. -

Our TempTamer Heater & Chiller is slightly smaller, easier, and only requires a standard 120v dedicated outlet. It changes water temperature 2-5 degrees per hour, depending on pool size and outdoor temps.
Ranges from 40*-104*.
Our Crosswind Heater & Chiller is more efficient in heating and chilling, and requires a 240v dedicated outlet nearby. It can change water temperature 5-10 degrees per hour, depending on pool size and outdoor temps.
Ranges from 54*-104*.

We have had an interest in making our backyard a place to gather, relax, etc. The Texas heat has had other ideas. May '25 brought a weather event that literally had a tree destroy our entire backyard. Low and behold we had an opportunity to rebuild and the Honcho with the TempTamer was the answer. We built to a vision that has surpassed our expectations and we have been in it 10 times in 2 weeks all toasty and warm with some of the cooler evenings and look forward to post cycling chill dips and all the other possible use cases. Here are a few pics, but needless to say it is a game changer for us. Love it love it love it... Did I mentioned that we love it? And a dog pic for good measure...
